This technology will be synced to all your devices and is available to serve you as if it was an embedded device - because let's face it most of us are joined at the hip to our smart phones. Smart speakers were purchased originally for home use but the applications follow you everywhere you go. I have not singled out Smart Phones (yet) because as the late Steven Jobs said in his keynote speech on Januto launch of the I-Phone as Appleās new device a three-in-one product, the smart speaker is now the fourth leg of the 2007 I-Phone. The mashup of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR), STEM education and Smart Speakers is happening now in real time as the voluminous flow of data steams from device to device and is curated at the massive data centers that dot the landscape of America and the rest of the planet. And the breadth and depth of these changes herald the transformation of entire systems of production, management, and governance. Moreover, it is disrupting almost every industry in every country. When compared with previous industrial revolutions, the Fourth is evolving at an exponential rather than a linear pace. The World Economic Forum would declare the birth of the Forth Industrial Revolution in January of 2016. The Smart Speaker era begins in 2011 with Apple Computer's introduction of Siri and all the Tech Titans have jumped into this critical marketplace - Google / Google Now / Google Home, Microsoft / Cortana, Amazon Alexa / Echo, Sound Hound / Hound, Samsung Bixby, Baidu / Xiaoyu, Alibaba / Genie X1, Cisco / Spark Assistant, etc. It stuck and every school district in America is hoping that STEM will launch their students toward academic brilliance and successful careers with high wages. It captured the relationship among the subject areas - and had a much better ring to it. "I didn't like the sound of that word," Ramaley said. The initial result was labeled with the acronym SMET. This trend calls for future, more in-depth examinations on the project activities and similar ones as a means to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in STEM professions.Today - Septemwill be the first day of school for many K-12 students throughout our country. The survey results uncover a trend of more positive responses of minority students towards project activities designed to prepare future STEM professionals. Finally, this chapter also presents the results and implications discovered through survey research designed to ascertain the participants' opinions of the project activities and the impact of the activities on retention in STEM fields and on participants' desires to continue into STEM careers. Additionally, the individual components and activities of Project Engage that address each pillar are detailed. In this chapter, the authors identify a three-pillar approach for preparing future STEM workers including 1) knowledge of STEM careers and professionals, 2) abilities to work in the STEM fields, and 3) ways of working as STEM professionals. Thomas, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Environment Program at Loyola University will present on STEM education in informal learning environments as part of the USM Center for STEM Education Spring STEMed Speaker Series. STEM professionals need specific knowledge, abilities, and general ways of working to be successful.
